to set up thermal power plants in Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. This order, classified as ‘ultra mega,’ is valued at over ₹15,000 crore, marking a significant milestone in the company’s history and cementing its role as a leader in India’s energy infrastructure expansion. The order follows a prior newsbreak from CNBC-TV18, which hinted at this substantial project last month.

The Energy CarbonLite Solutions division of L&T will be spearheading the project, taking on a range of responsibilities from design and engineering to construction and commissioning. These thermal power plants are set to play a crucial role in meeting India’s growing electricity demands while also adhering to environmental standards. This partnership between L&T and NTPC aligns with India’s goal of bolstering energy security and ensuring a robust supply of power to meet the needs of its rapidly growing population.

Project Details

The new thermal power plants are part of NTPC’s efforts to strengthen India’s power generation capabilities. These facilities will be equipped with advanced technology aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact. L&T’s scope of work for this project is extensive, covering design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, construction, and commissioning. Critical components include boilers, turbines, electrostatic precipitators, and essential mechanical, electrical, and civil works.

The order has been classified by L&T as ‘ultra mega,’ a term reserved for projects exceeding ₹15,000 crore. Such large-scale orders are rare and signify the strategic importance of the project to India’s energy landscape. The partnership highlights NTPC’s commitment to choosing reputed and reliable partners like L&T to ensure the successful execution of high-stakes infrastructure projects.

L&T’s Energy CarbonLite Solutions business specializes in executing projects that are both energy-efficient and aligned with environmental regulations. With a proven track record in the power sector, L&T’s expertise is expected to facilitate the timely and efficient completion of this project. L&T’s capabilities in thermal power projects make it a natural choice for NTPC, which has been expanding its capacity to meet the increasing energy needs of the country.

Boost to Regional Development

The construction of these thermal power plants in Madhya Pradesh and Bihar is anticipated to bring several economic and social benefits to these states. With L&T’s presence, local communities are likely to benefit from job creation, skill development programs, and improved infrastructure. Employment opportunities will range from skilled labor to technical positions, and L&T’s emphasis on local hiring will help communities flourish.

The energy infrastructure development aligns with India’s objectives under the National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP) and will contribute to sustainable economic growth in these regions. As India continues to invest in regional development, projects of this magnitude play a crucial role in elevating the quality of life for local communities.

Commitment to Environmental Standards

One of the standout aspects of the project is its focus on environmental sustainability. NTPC and L&T are both committed to reducing the carbon footprint of their operations. The inclusion of electrostatic precipitators in the plant design is indicative of the measures being taken.
